The Jurupari Geophagus, scientifically known as Satanoperca jurupari, is a peaceful South American cichlid that gets its "Earth Eater" nickname from its natural behavior of sifting through sand for food. These fish are characterized by a tan or grayish-brown body with iridescent golden-green hues, vertical stripes, and a striking metallic sheen that becomes more vivid with age. While generally calm, they can become territorial during breeding season, and a varied diet of pellets, flakes, and vegetable matter is essential for their omnivorous needs. 
Appearance

  • Coloration:Tan to gray base color with vertical bands and iridescent scales in shades of gold or green. 
  • Fins:May have orange or red accents and spiky dorsal fins.

Behavior
