The Growing Process

Timothy Hay starts growing in spring after a winter rest. It's ready for the first cut by late spring or early summer, typically by mid-June. This first harvest produces hay with long, thick stems, broad leaves, and long seed heads, known as First Cut Timothy Hay. Occasionally, a cooler summer allows the second growth to produce similarly coarse hay.

Most purchases will be First Cut Timothy Hay, which is known for its long, thick stems, broad leaves, and long seed heads. Occasionally, a very coarse Second Cut Timothy Hay may be supplied, as detailed in their hay report.
